TY TY Summary

Ty Ty is a small city located in the southwestern corner of Georgia, in Tift County. It is situated about halfway between the cities of Albany and Valdosta, and is part of the Valdosta Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city has a population of 1,845 people, according to the 2010 census.

History

The area that is now Ty Ty was first settled in the early 1800s by a group of settlers from South Carolina. The town was originally known as “Tifton”, after the nearby Tift County. In 1854, the town was renamed “Ty Ty”, after a local creek. The name is derived from the Creek Indian word “Tutu”, which means “meeting place”.
