Tallapoosa is a city located in Haralson County, Georgia, United States. The population was 1,837 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Haralson County.

History

Tallapoosa was founded in 1854 and named after the nearby Tallapoosa River. The city was incorporated in 1856. The city was originally known as "Tallapoosa Court House" due to its location as the county seat of Haralson County.
The city was a major center of the cotton industry in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The city was also home to a large number of textile mills, which provided employment for many of the city's residents.

Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.08% of the population.
There were 717 households, out of which 30.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.2% were married couples living together, 16.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.2% were non-families. 29.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 3.02.
