Sparks Summary

Sparks, Georgia is a small town located in the northeastern part of the state, in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. It is situated in the county of Cook, and is part of the Valdosta Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town has a population of approximately 1,000 people, and is known for its rural charm and friendly atmosphere.

History

Sparks was founded in 1883 by a group of settlers from the nearby town of Adel. The town was named after the Sparks family, who were among the first settlers. The town was incorporated in 1887, and the first mayor was elected in 1888.
The town grew slowly over the years, and by the early 1900s, it had become a thriving agricultural community. The town was home to several cotton gins, a sawmill, and a grist mill. The town also had a post office, a bank, and a hotel.
In the 1920s, the town began to experience a decline in population as many of the residents moved away to larger cities. However, the town was able to remain viable due to its proximity to the nearby city of Valdosta.
