Morrow is a city located in Clayton County, Georgia, United States. It is located just south of Atlanta and is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The population was 6,445 at the 2010 census, up from 4,882 at the 2000 census.

History

Morrow was founded in 1846 by the Reverend William Morrow, a Methodist minister. The city was named after him. Morrow was incorporated as a town in 1872 and as a city in 1916.
Morrow was the site of the first public school in Clayton County, which opened in 1872. The school was named after the Reverend Morrow.

Geography

Morrow is located in central Clayton County at 33°34'17" North, 84°21'45" West (33.571445, -84.362445). It is bordered to the north by Forest Park, to the east by Lake City, to the south by Jonesboro, and to the west by Lake City.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 4.2 square miles (10.9 km2), of which 0.02 square miles (0.04 km2), or 0.44%, is water.

Economy

Morrow is home to several large employers, including Clayton State University, Clayton County Public Schools, and the Clayton County Board of Education. The city also has a number of small businesses, including restaurants, retail stores, and professional services.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 4,882 people, 1,845 households, and 1,269 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,164.2 people per square mile (449.7/km2). There were 1,945 housing units at an average density of 463.2 per square mile (178.7/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 57.45% African American, 37.45% White, 0.25% Native American, 1.45% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 1.45% from other races, and 2.38% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.45% of the population.
There were 1,845 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 37.2% were married couples living together, 25.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.2% were non-families. 26.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 8.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.63 and the average family size was 3.17.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 28.2% under the age of 18, 11.2% from 18 to 24, 30.2% from 25 to 44, 19.2% from 45 to 64, and 11.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 32 years. For every 100 females, there were 87.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 81.2 males.
