Mansfield Summary

Mansfield is a small city located in Newton County, Georgia, United States. It is situated about 40 miles east of Atlanta and is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The city has a population of approximately 2,500 people and is the county seat of Newton County.

History

Mansfield was founded in 1821 and was originally known as "Newton Court House". The city was named after the Revolutionary War hero, General William M. Mansfield. The city was incorporated in 1883 and has since grown to become the county seat of Newton County.
The city has a rich history and was the site of several battles during the Civil War. In 1864, the Battle of Mansfield was fought in the city and resulted in a Confederate victory. The city was also the site of the Battle of Brown's Mill in 1864, which was a Confederate victory.
