Loganville Summary

Loganville is a city located in Walton and Gwinnett counties in the U.S. state of Georgia. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area and is located approximately 40 miles east of downtown Atlanta. The population was 10,458 at the 2010 census, up from 6,228 at the 2000 census.

History

Loganville was founded in 1820 by James Logan, a Revolutionary War veteran. The city was named after him and was originally known as "Logan's Crossroads". The city was incorporated in 1887.

Geography

Loganville is located in western Walton County and eastern Gwinnett County at 33°47'25" North, 83°59'17" West (33.790278, -83.987917). It is bordered to the north by the city of Monroe, to the east by unincorporated Snellville, to the south by unincorporated Grayson, and to the west by unincorporated Loganville.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 8.2 square miles (21.2 km2), of which 8.1 square miles (21.0 km2) is land and 0.1 square miles (0.2 km2) (1.25%) is water.

Economy

Loganville is home to a variety of businesses, including manufacturing, retail, and service industries. The city is also home to several large employers, including the Walton County Board of Education, the Walton County Sheriff's Office, and the Walton County Health Department.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 6,228 people, 2,093 households, and 1,637 families residing in the city. The population density was 762.3 people per square mile (294.2/km2). There were 2,213 housing units at an average density of 272.7 per square mile (105.3/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 79.45% White, 14.90% African American, 0.37% Native American, 0.90% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 2.90% from other races, and 1.46% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 5.90% of the population.
There were 2,093 households, out of which 41.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.2% were married couples living together, 12.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 23.2% were non-families. 19.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 6.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.95 and the average family size was 3.37.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 30.2% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 18 to 24, 33.2% from 25 to 44, 19.3% from 45 to 64, and 8.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 32 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.2 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $45,938, and the median income for a family was $50,938. Males had a median income of $35,938 versus $25,938 for females. The per capita income for the city was $18,938. About 5.2% of families and 7.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 8.2% of those under age 18 and 8.2% of those age 65 or over.
