Dearing Summary

Dearing is a small town located in McDuffie County, Georgia, United States. It is situated along the banks of the Ogeechee River, approximately 20 miles west of Augusta. The town was founded in 1883 and named after the Dearing family, who were early settlers in the area. As of the 2010 census, the population of Dearing was 545.

The area that is now Dearing was originally inhabited by the Creek Indians. The first white settlers arrived in the area in the early 1800s. The town was founded in 1883 and named after the Dearing family, who were early settlers in the area. The town was incorporated in 1887.
In the early 1900s, Dearing was a thriving agricultural community. The town was home to several cotton gins, a sawmill, and a grist mill. The town also had a hotel, a bank, and several stores.
In the 1950s, the town began to decline as the local economy shifted away from agriculture. The town’s population decreased and many of the businesses closed.

Geography

Dearing is located at 33°25'25" North, 82°25'25" West (33.423, -82.423). The town is situated along the banks of the Ogeechee River, approximately 20 miles west of Augusta.

As of the 2010 census, the population of Dearing was 545. The racial makeup of the town was 79.2% White, 17.3% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 2.9% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.3% of the population.
