Alston Summary
Alston, Georgia is a small town located in the southeastern United States. It is situated in the state of Georgia, in the county of Wilcox. The town is located in the heart of the state, about an hour and a half south of Atlanta. Alston is a rural community with a population of just over 1,000 people.
History
Alston was founded in 1820 by a group of settlers from South Carolina. The town was named after the Alston family, who were among the first settlers. The town was originally a farming community, and the main crops grown were cotton and corn. In the late 1800s, the town began to grow and develop, and by the early 1900s, it had become a thriving community.
In the early 1900s, Alston was home to several businesses, including a general store, a blacksmith shop, a sawmill, and a gristmill. The town also had a post office, a bank, and a school.
