Wyoming is a small town located in New Castle County, Delaware, United States. It is situated on the banks of the Christina River, about 8 miles south of Wilmington. The population of Wyoming was 1,719 at the 2010 census.

Geography

Wyoming is located at 39°41'25" North, 75°37'45" West (39.690278, -75.629167). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.7 square miles (1.8 km2), all of it land.

History

The area that is now Wyoming was first settled in the late 1600s by Swedish and Dutch immigrants. The town was originally known as "Christina" after the Christina River, which runs through the town. In 1704, the town was renamed "Wyoming" after the Wyoming Valley in Pennsylvania.
The town was incorporated in 1845 and was a popular summer resort for wealthy Philadelphians. The town was also home to a number of mills, including a paper mill, a grist mill, and a saw mill.

There were 745 housing units at an average density of 1,072.3 per square mile (414.7/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 87.2% White, 8.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.7% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 1.2% from other races, and 2.6% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.2% of the population.
There were 690 households, out of which 28.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.3% were married couples living together, 12.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.6% were non-families. 28.3% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 3.04.
In the town, the population was spread out, with 24.2% under the age of 18, 6.7% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 25.2% from 45 to 64, and 15.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females, there were 92.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.2 males.
