Loa Summary
Loa is a city located in Juab County, Utah, United States. It is the county seat of Juab County and is located along the Sevier River. The population was 1,817 at the 2010 census.
History
Loa was first settled in 1877 by a group of Mormon pioneers led by William Loa. The town was named after William Loa, who was a leader in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The town was incorporated in 1883.
Geography
Loa is located at 39°45'17" North, 112°2'17" West (39.754722, -112.038333). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all of it land.
Economy
Loa's economy is largely based on agriculture and tourism. The city is home to several small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a few restaurants. The city also has a small airport, which is used for recreational flying.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there were 1,817 people, 602 households, and 463 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,521.2 people per square mile (586.3/km2). There were 645 housing units at an average density of 537.2 per square mile (207.6/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 97.2% White, 0.3% African American, 0.3% Native American, 0.3% Asian, 0.3% Pacific Islander, 0.3% from other races, and 1.4% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.7% of the population.
There were 602 households, out of which 39.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.1% were married couples living together, 8.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 24.2% were non-families. 21.3% of all households were made up of individuals, and 10.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
