Delta Summary

Delta is a city located in Millard County, Utah, United States. It is the county seat of Millard County and is located along the Sevier River. As of the 2010 census, the population of Delta was 3,436.

History

The area that is now Delta was first settled in 1864 by a group of Mormon pioneers led by William Pace. The settlers named the area after the Greek letter delta, which is the fourth letter of the Greek alphabet. The settlers chose this name because the area was located at the confluence of three rivers: the Sevier, the Beaver, and the Fillmore.
The settlers built a fort to protect themselves from Native American attacks. The fort was located on the north side of the Sevier River and was made of adobe walls. The fort was later abandoned in 1868 when the settlers moved to other areas.
