Louisburg, Kansas is a small city located in Miami County, Kansas, United States. The city is situated on the banks of the Marais des Cygnes River, approximately 25 miles south of Kansas City. As of the 2010 census, the city had a population of 3,370.

History

The area that is now Louisburg was first settled in 1854 by a group of settlers from Ohio. The town was originally named “Ohio City”, but was later changed to “Louisburg” in honor of Louis B. French, a prominent local businessman. The town was officially incorporated in 1857.
In the late 19th century, Louisburg was a thriving agricultural community, with a variety of businesses and industries. The town was home to a number of flour mills, a brickyard, a canning factory, and a number of other businesses.

Louisburg is located at 38°45'25" North, 94°51'45" West (38.756944, -94.862500). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.2 square miles, all of it land.
