History
Searsboro was founded in 1854 by William Sears, a settler from New York. The town was originally named Searsville, but the name was changed to Searsboro in 1856. The town was incorporated in 1881.
The town was a major stop on the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad, which ran through the town from 1881 to the late 1970s. The railroad was a major source of employment for the town, and it also brought in many visitors.

Searsboro's economy is largely based on agriculture. The town is home to several farms, as well as a few small businesses. The town also has a few restaurants and a grocery store.
Demographics
As of the census of 2010, there were 441 people, 181 households, and 119 families residing in the city. The population density was 725.0 people per square mile (280.3/km2). There were 197 housing units at an average density of 325.0 per square mile (125.3/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 97.7% White, 0.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.6% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.1% of the population.
There were 181 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.4% were married couples living together, 8.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.5% were non-families. 32.6% of all households were made up of individuals, and 16.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.44 and the average family size was 3.12.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 25.9% under the age of 18, 7.3% from 18 to 24, 24.2% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 18.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females, there were 94.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.2 males.
