Rock Falls Summary

History

Rock Falls, Iowa is a small town located in the northwest corner of the state, in the county of Lyon. It was founded in 1856 by a group of settlers from the nearby town of Rock Rapids. The town was named after the nearby falls on the Rock River, which was a popular spot for fishing and recreation. The town was originally a farming community, but in the late 19th century, it became a center for the lumber industry. The lumber industry was the main source of employment for the town until the early 20th century, when the industry began to decline.
In the early 1900s, Rock Falls began to transition from a farming and lumber town to a manufacturing center. The first major industry to move to the town was the Rock Falls Manufacturing Company, which opened in 1906. The company produced a variety of products, including farm implements, furniture, and other items. The company was a major employer in the town until it closed in the 1950s.
In the 1950s, Rock Falls began to experience a period of growth and development. The town was home to several new businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a bank. The town also saw the construction of a new school, a library, and a post office.
In the late 20th century, Rock Falls experienced a period of decline. The town’s population decreased, and many of the businesses that had been established in the 1950s closed. However, in recent years, the town has seen a resurgence in population and economic activity.
