Riverside Summary

Riverside, Iowa is a small city located in Washington County, Iowa, United States. The city is situated on the banks of the Cedar River, and is part of the Iowa City Metropolitan Statistical Area. As of the 2010 census, the city had a population of 1,869.

History

Riverside was founded in 1868 by a group of settlers from the nearby town of Washington. The settlers chose the name Riverside because of its location on the banks of the Cedar River. The city was incorporated in 1876.
In the late 19th century, Riverside was a thriving agricultural community, with a variety of businesses and industries. The city was home to a number of flour mills, a brickyard, a creamery, a canning factory, and a number of other businesses.
In the early 20th century, Riverside experienced a period of growth and prosperity. The city was home to a number of manufacturing plants, including a furniture factory, a shoe factory, and a foundry. The city also had a number of retail stores, including a department store, a grocery store, and a drug store.

Geography

Riverside is located at 41°37'25" North, 91°37'45" West (41.623, -91.629). The city is situated on the banks of the Cedar River, and is part of the Iowa City Metropolitan Statistical Area.
The city has a total area of 1.2 square miles, all of which is land. The city is located in the rolling hills of eastern Iowa, and is surrounded by farmland.
