Reinbeck Summary

History

Reinbeck was founded in 1855 by a group of German immigrants led by John Reinbeck. The town was named after Reinbeck, who was a prominent local businessman. The town was incorporated in 1876.

Geography

Reinbeck is located at 42°20'25" North, 92°37'17" West (42.340278, -92.621389). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), all of it land.

Economy

Reinbeck's economy is largely based on agriculture. The town is home to several grain elevators, a feed mill, and a fertilizer plant. The town also has a few small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a restaurant.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 1,890 people, 745 households, and 517 families residing in the town. The population density was 1,567.2 people per square mile (604.7/km2). There were 790 housing units at an average density of 654.3 per square mile (252.3/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 98.68% White, 0.11% African American, 0.11% Native American, 0.11% Asian, 0.11% from other races, and 0.89% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.37% of the population.
There were 745 households, out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.2% were married couples living together, 8.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.2% were non-families. 28.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 16.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.51 and the average family size was 3.09.
In the town, the population was spread out, with 27.2% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 26.2% from 25 to 44, 21.2% from 45 to 64, and 18.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 91.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.2 males.
