Plainfield Summary

Plainfield is a small city located in Benton County, Iowa, United States. The population was 1,072 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cedar Rapids Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Plainfield was founded in 1854 by a group of settlers from New York. The town was named after Plainfield, New York, the hometown of one of the settlers. The first post office was established in 1855.
The town grew slowly but steadily over the years, and by the turn of the 20th century, it had become a thriving agricultural community. The town was incorporated in 1902.
