Nora Springs Summary

History
Nora Springs was founded in 1856 by John and Mary Nora, who were among the first settlers in the area. The town was originally known as Nora's Springs, after the Nora family. The name was later shortened to Nora Springs. The town was incorporated in 1881.
In the late 19th century, Nora Springs was a popular tourist destination, due to its natural springs and mineral baths. The town was also known for its brickyards, which produced bricks for many of the buildings in the area.

The racial makeup of the city was 97.2% White, 0.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.9% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.2% of the population.
There were 745 households, out of which 28.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.2% were married couples living together, 9.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.3% were non-families. 30.3% of all households were made up of individuals, and 15.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.41 and the average family size was 3.00.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 24.7% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 25.2% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 18.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females, there were 91.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.2 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $37,500, and the median income for a family was $45,000. Males had a median income of $31,250 versus $21,250 for females.
