New Albin is a small city located in Allamakee County, Iowa, United States. The population was 545 at the 2010 census. It is located on the Mississippi River, just south of the Minnesota border.

History

New Albin was founded in 1854 by a group of settlers from Albin, Wisconsin. The settlers named the town after their former home. The town was incorporated in 1858.
In the late 19th century, New Albin was a thriving river port. The town was home to several sawmills, a grist mill, a woolen mill, and a brickyard. The town also had a hotel, a bank, and several stores.
In the early 20th century, the town's economy shifted from river-based industries to agriculture. The town's population began to decline as people moved away to find work in larger cities.

The racial makeup of the city was 98.2% White, 0.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 0.9% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.7% of the population.
There were 225 households, out of which 28.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.1% were married couples living together, 8.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.4% were non-families. 32.0% of all households were made up of individuals, and 16.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.41 and the average family size was 3.05.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 25.3% under the age of 18, 6.7% from 18 to 24, 24.2% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 19.6% who were 65 years of age or older.
