History
Moulton was founded in 1854 by a group of settlers from Ohio. The town was named after a local creek, which was named after a settler named Moulton. The town was incorporated in 1876.
Moulton was a major stop on the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad, which ran through the town from 1881 to 1971. The railroad was a major source of employment for the town, and it also brought in many visitors.
In the early 1900s, Moulton was a thriving agricultural community. The town had several grain elevators, a creamery, a flour mill, and a canning factory. The town also had a number of stores, including a hardware store, a drug store, and a general store.
In the 1950s, Moulton began to decline as the railroad industry declined. The town's population dropped from 1,400 in 1950 to 1,093 in 2010.

Moulton is located at 40°59'45" North, 92°51'45" West (40.995833, -92.862500). The city is situated in the rolling hills of southern Iowa, about 25 miles south of Ottumwa.

Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.2% of the population.
There were 441 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.6% were married couples living together, 9.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.3% were non-families. 30.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 15.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 3.04.
