Milton Summary

Milton, Iowa is a small town located in the southeastern corner of the state, in Van Buren County. It is situated on the banks of the Des Moines River, and is surrounded by rolling hills and farmland. The town has a population of just over 500 people, and is known for its small-town charm and friendly atmosphere.

History

Milton was founded in 1837 by a group of settlers from Ohio. The town was named after the poet John Milton, and was originally intended to be a trading post for the local Native American tribes. The town quickly grew, and by the late 1800s it had become a thriving agricultural center. The town was home to several mills, a blacksmith shop, and a general store.
In the early 1900s, Milton began to experience a decline in population as many of its residents moved away to larger cities. However, the town was able to maintain its small-town charm and character, and it remains a popular destination for visitors today.
