History

Menlo was founded in 1854 by a group of settlers from Ohio. The town was named after Menlo Park, New Jersey, the home of Thomas Edison. The town was originally a farming community, and the settlers quickly established a post office, a school, and a church.
In the late 19th century, Menlo began to industrialize, and several factories were built in the town. The most notable of these was the Menlo Manufacturing Company, which produced farm equipment and other products. The town also had a few small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a few restaurants.
In the early 20th century, Menlo experienced a period of growth, and the population increased to over 1,000 people. However, the Great Depression caused the town to decline, and the population decreased to just over 500 people by the 1950s.
