Lone Tree is a city located in Johnson County, Iowa, United States. The population was 1,845 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Iowa City, IA Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Lone Tree was founded in 1839 by a group of settlers from Ohio. The town was named after a single tree that stood in the middle of the prairie. The tree was used as a landmark for travelers and settlers.

The first post office was established in 1845 The town was incorporated in 1876
