Lisbon Summary

Lisbon, Iowa is a small city located in Linn County, Iowa, United States. It is situated on the banks of the Cedar River, approximately 20 miles north of Cedar Rapids. The city has a population of 2,890 as of the 2010 census, making it the second-largest city in Linn County.

History

Lisbon was founded in 1839 by a group of settlers from New England. The city was named after the Portuguese capital of Lisbon, and was incorporated in 1851. The city was an important stop on the Cedar Rapids and Missouri Railroad, which connected the city to the rest of the state.
In the late 19th century, Lisbon was a major center for the production of brick and tile. The city was also home to a number of manufacturing plants, including a flour mill, a furniture factory, and a canning factory.

Geography

Lisbon is located at 41°45'N, 91°30'W (41.75, -91.50). The city is situated on the banks of the Cedar River, approximately 20 miles north of Cedar Rapids. The city has a total area of 2.2 square miles, all of which is land.
