Lamont Summary

Lamont is a small city located in Buchanan County, Iowa, United States. The population was 545 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Waterloo–Cedar Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Lamont was founded in 1856 by a group of settlers from New York. The town was named after Lamont, New York, the hometown of one of the settlers. The first post office was established in 1857.
In 1868, the Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul Railroad built a line through the town, which helped to spur growth. The town was incorporated in 1876.

The economy of Lamont is largely based on agriculture. The town is home to several grain elevators, as well as a feed mill and a fertilizer plant.
