Kanawha is a small city located in Hancock County, Iowa, United States. The population was 1,093 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Mason City Micropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Kanawha was founded in 1881 by the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad. The city was named after the Kanawha River in West Virginia. The first post office in Kanawha was established in 1882.
