Garnavillo Summary

Garnavillo is a small city located in Clayton County, Iowa, United States. It is situated along the Turkey River and is part of the Dubuque, Iowa Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 602 at the 2010 census.

History

Garnavillo was founded in 1847 by a group of German immigrants led by John G. Schutte. The town was named after the German city of Garnavillo, which was the hometown of Schutte and many of the other settlers. The first settlers built a log cabin and a sawmill, and the town quickly grew.
