Fruitland Summary

Fruitland is a small city located in Jackson County, Iowa, United States. The population was 545 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dubuque, Iowa Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Fruitland was founded in 1854 by a group of German immigrants. The town was named after the abundance of fruit trees in the area. The first post office was established in 1856.
In the late 19th century, Fruitland was a thriving agricultural community. The town had a general store, a blacksmith shop, a hotel, a school, and a church.
