History

Fredericksburg was founded in 1856 by German immigrants who had come to the area from Pennsylvania. The town was named after Frederick, the son of one of the original settlers. The town was incorporated in 1876.
In the late 19th century, Fredericksburg was a thriving agricultural community. The town was home to several businesses, including a flour mill, a creamery, a sawmill, and a brickyard. The town also had a railroad station, which connected it to the rest of the state.

Fredericksburg is located at 42°45'25" North, 92°17'45" West (42.756944, -92.295833). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.7 square miles (1.8 km2), all of it land.

There were 471 housing units at an average density of 671.4 per square mile (259.2/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 97.7% White, 0.3% African American, 0.3% Native American, 0.3% Asian, 0.3% from other races, and 1.0% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.3% of the population.
There were 441 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.6% were married couples living together, 8.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.7% were non-families. 32.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 17.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.41 and the average family size was 3.05.
In the town, the population was spread out, with 25.2% under the age of 18, 6.7% from 18 to 24, 24.2% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 19.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females, there were 94.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.2 males.
