Eddyville was founded in 1851 by William Eddy, a settler from Ohio. Eddy had purchased the land from the government and began to build a small town. The town was originally called Eddyville, but was later changed to Eddyville in 1856.
The town grew slowly, but steadily, and by the late 19th century, it had become a thriving community. The town was home to a variety of businesses, including a flour mill, a sawmill, a blacksmith shop, a general store, and a hotel.
In the early 20th century, Eddyville was a popular destination for tourists. The town was known for its scenic beauty and its many recreational activities, such as fishing, hunting, and boating.
