Earlville Summary

Earlville, Iowa is a small city located in Delaware County, Iowa. It is situated on the banks of the Maquoketa River, approximately 20 miles east of Dubuque. The city has a population of 1,072 people, according to the 2010 census.

History

Earlville was founded in 1854 by a group of settlers from New York. The city was named after one of the settlers, Earl Smith. The city was incorporated in 1858 and was the first city in Delaware County.
In the late 19th century, Earlville was a thriving agricultural community. The city was home to several grain mills, a creamery, a cheese factory, and a canning factory. The city also had a large lumber industry, with several sawmills located in the area.
In the early 20th century, Earlville experienced a period of growth and prosperity. The city was home to several businesses, including a bank, a hotel, a movie theater, and a variety of stores.
