Dysart Summary
Dysart is a city located in Tama County, Iowa, United States. The population was 1,845 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Waterloo–Cedar Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area.
History
Dysart was founded in 1883 by the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad. The town was named after the Scottish town of Dysart, which was the birthplace of the railroad's president. The first post office in Dysart was established in 1883.

Dysart is home to several businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, a lumber yard, a bank, a restaurant, and a gas station. The city also has a public library and a post office.
Demographics
As of the census of 2010, there were 1,845 people, 745 households, and 486 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,811.8 people per square mile (700.2/km2). There were 790 housing units at an average density of 774.5 per square mile (298.7/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 97.3% White, 0.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.9% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.2% of the population.
There were 745 households, out of which 30.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.3% were married couples living together, 10.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.2% were non-families. 32.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 17.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.37 and the average family size was 2.97.
In the city, the population was spread out, with 25.2% under the age of 18, 6.7% from 18 to 24, 24.2% from 25 to 44, 22.7% from 45 to 64, and 21.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females, there were 87.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 83.2 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $37,917, and the median income for a family was $45,000. Males had a median income of $31,250 versus $21,250 for females.
