Danville Summary

Danville, Iowa is a small town located in Des Moines County, Iowa. It is situated on the banks of the Des Moines River, about 10 miles south of Burlington. The population of Danville was 1,092 at the 2010 census.

History

The area that is now Danville was first settled in 1836 by a group of settlers from Ohio. The town was originally known as “Ohio Settlement”, but was later renamed Danville in 1845 after Daniel B. Miller, a local landowner. The town was officially incorporated in 1851.
In the late 19th century, Danville was a thriving agricultural community. The town was home to several grain elevators, a flour mill, a creamery, and a canning factory. The town also had a railroad station, which connected it to the rest of the state.

Geography

Danville is located at 41°25'25" North, 91°20'45" West (41.423, -91.346). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.7 square miles, all of it land.
The town is situated on the banks of the Des Moines River, which flows through the town. The river is a popular spot for fishing, canoeing, and kayaking.

Economy

The economy of Danville is largely based on agriculture. The town is home to several grain elevators, a flour mill, a creamery, and a canning factory. The town also has a few small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a few restaurants.
The town is also home to a few manufacturing companies, including a furniture factory and a plastics factory.

Demographics

As of the 2010 census, there were 1,092 people, 441 households, and 294 families residing in the town. The population density was 1,541.7 people per square mile. The racial makeup of the town was 97.2% White, 0.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 1.9% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.3% of the population.
There were 441 households, out of which 28.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.6% were married couples living together, 9.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.7% were non-families. 29.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
