Dana Summary
Dana, Iowa is a small town located in the northwest corner of the state, in the county of Plymouth. It is situated on the banks of the Floyd River, and is home to a population of just over 500 people.
History
The area that is now Dana was first settled in the late 1840s by a group of German immigrants. The town was originally known as “New Germany”, and was later renamed to honor the first settler, John Dana. The town was officially incorporated in 1876.
In the early years, the town was primarily an agricultural community, with the main crops being corn, oats, and hay. The town also had a number of small businesses, including a general store, a blacksmith shop, and a sawmill.
In the late 19th century, the town began to grow and develop. The railroad arrived in 1887, and the town was connected to the rest of the state by the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad. This allowed for the growth of the local economy, and the town began to attract more businesses and residents.
