History

The city of Columbus Junction was founded in 1868 by a group of settlers from Columbus, Ohio. The city was named after the Ohio city, and the settlers hoped to create a similar atmosphere in their new home. The city was incorporated in 1871.
The city was originally a farming community, but it soon developed into a manufacturing center. The first industry in the city was a sawmill, which was built in 1871. This was followed by a grist mill, a woolen mill, a furniture factory, and a brickyard.
