Charlotte Summary

Charlotte, Iowa is a small city located in the southeastern corner of the state, in Appanoose County. It is situated on the banks of the Chariton River, and is surrounded by rolling hills and farmland. The city has a population of approximately 1,500 people, and is the county seat of Appanoose County.

History

Charlotte was founded in 1851 by a group of settlers from Ohio. The city was named after Charlotte, the daughter of one of the settlers. The city was incorporated in 1856, and the first post office was established in 1857.
In the late 19th century, Charlotte was a thriving agricultural center, with a variety of crops being grown in the area. The city was also home to several manufacturing businesses, including a flour mill, a brickyard, and a furniture factory.
