Brandon Summary

Brandon, Iowa is a small city located in the eastern part of the state, in the county of Scott. It is situated on the banks of the Mississippi River, and is part of the Quad Cities metropolitan area. The city has a population of approximately 4,000 people, and is known for its small-town charm and friendly atmosphere.

History

The area that is now Brandon was first settled in 1837 by a group of settlers from Ohio. The town was originally known as “Brandon’s Landing”, and was named after the first settler, William Brandon. The town was officially incorporated in 1853, and was named after the nearby Brandon Creek.
In the late 19th century, Brandon was a thriving river port, and was home to several industries, including a sawmill, a flour mill, and a brickyard. The town also had a number of stores, hotels, and saloons.
In the early 20th century, Brandon began to decline as the river port industry declined. The town was hit hard by the Great Depression, and many of the businesses closed. However, the town was able to survive, and in the 1950s, the town began to experience a resurgence.
