Albia Summary

Albia is a city located in Monroe County, Iowa, United States. It is the county seat of Monroe County and is located along the Chariton River. The population was 3,717 at the 2010 census.

History

Albia was founded in 1843 by William and Mary Ann Albia, who named the city after their daughter, Albia. The city was incorporated in 1858. The first post office was established in 1845.
The city was a major stop on the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad, which ran through the city from 1871 to 1971. The railroad was a major factor in the growth of the city, as it allowed for the transportation of goods and people.

Albia is located at 41°2′17″N 92°48′45″W (41.038125, -92.812500). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 3.45 square miles (8.93 km2), all of it land.

Albia's economy is largely based on agriculture and manufacturing. The city is home to several large agricultural companies, including Albia Grain and Feed, Albia Seed, and Albia Livestock. The city is also home to several manufacturing companies, including Albia Manufacturing, Albia Plastics, and Albia Machine Works.
