Palmer Summary

Palmer, Tennessee is a small town located in the southeastern corner of the state, in Rhea County. It is situated on the banks of the Tennessee River, and is part of the Chattanooga metropolitan area. The town has a population of just over 1,000 people, and is known for its rural charm and friendly atmosphere.

History

Palmer was founded in 1820 by a group of settlers from North Carolina. The town was named after the Reverend John Palmer, a prominent minister in the area. The town was originally a farming community, and the main crops grown were corn, wheat, and cotton. The town was also home to a number of small businesses, including a general store, a blacksmith, and a grist mill.
In the late 19th century, Palmer began to experience a period of growth and prosperity. The town was connected to the railroad in 1887, and this allowed for the transportation of goods and people to and from the town. This period of growth was short-lived, however, as the Great Depression hit the town hard. Many of the businesses in the town closed, and the population began to decline.
