Obion Summary

Obion is a small town located in the northwest corner of Tennessee, in Obion County. It is situated on the banks of the Obion River, which is a tributary of the Mississippi River. The town was founded in 1837 and is named after the Obion River. The population of Obion was 1,845 in the 2010 census.

History

Obion was founded in 1837 by a group of settlers from North Carolina. The town was named after the Obion River, which was named after a Native American tribe that lived in the area. The town was originally a farming community, but it soon became a trading center for the surrounding area. The town was incorporated in 1845 and the first post office was established in 1846.
In the late 19th century, Obion became a major railroad hub. The town was connected to the Louisville and Nashville Railroad, the Illinois Central Railroad, and the St. Louis and San Francisco Railroad. This allowed the town to become a major shipping center for the region.
