Monroe Summary

Monroe, Oregon is a small city located in Benton County, Oregon. It is situated on the banks of the Willamette River, approximately 10 miles south of Corvallis. The city has a population of approximately 2,500 people and is part of the Corvallis Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Monroe was founded in 1853 by a group of settlers from the Midwest. The city was named after James Monroe, the fifth president of the United States. The settlers were attracted to the area due to its fertile soil and abundant natural resources. The city quickly grew and by the late 1800s, it was a thriving agricultural community.
In the early 1900s, the city began to diversify its economy. The timber industry became a major employer in the area, and the city also became a hub for the railroad industry. The city continued to grow and by the 1950s, it had become a popular tourist destination.
