Choteau Summary

Choteau, Montana is a small town located in Teton County, Montana. It is situated in the Rocky Mountains, approximately 50 miles east of Great Falls. The town has a population of 1,631 people, according to the 2010 census.

History

Choteau was founded in 1883 by French-Canadian fur trappers. The town was named after Pierre Choteau, a prominent fur trader in the area. The town quickly grew as a trading post and a center for the fur trade. In the late 19th century, Choteau was a major stop on the Great Northern Railway. The railroad brought in new settlers and businesses, and the town grew rapidly.
