Soldier, Kansas is a small town located in the northeast corner of Geary County, Kansas. It is situated on the banks of the Big Blue River, approximately 10 miles south of Junction City and Fort Riley. The town was founded in 1867 and was named after the nearby military post, Fort Riley. As of the 2010 census, the population of Soldier was 545.
Geography
Soldier is located at 39°14'45" North, 96°41'45" West (39.245833, -96.695833). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.6 square miles (1.6 km2), all of it land.
Economy
The economy of Soldier is largely based on agriculture and the military. The town is home to several farms and ranches, as well as a few small businesses. The nearby military post, Fort Riley, is a major employer in the area and provides a significant economic boost to the town.
Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there were 545 people, 206 households, and 149 families residing in the town. The population density was 890.3 people per square mile (344.3/km2).
