Richmond Summary

Richmond, Kansas is a small city located in Franklin County, Kansas. It is situated on the banks of the Marais des Cygnes River, approximately 30 miles south of the Kansas City metropolitan area. The city has a population of 1,845 people, according to the 2010 census.

History

Richmond was founded in 1857 by a group of settlers from Richmond, Indiana. The city was named after the Indiana city, and was incorporated in 1872. The city was originally a farming community, and the main crops grown were wheat, corn, and oats. In the late 19th century, the city began to grow and develop, and by the early 20th century, it had become a thriving commercial center.
The city was also home to a number of businesses, including a flour mill, a brickyard, a creamery, and a canning factory. In the early 20th century, the city was also home to a number of churches, including the First Presbyterian Church, the First Methodist Church, and the First Baptist Church.
