Phillipsburg is located in the High Plains region of the Great Plains. The town is situated on the banks of the Republican River, and is surrounded by rolling hills and prairies. The climate is semi-arid, with hot summers and cold winters. The average annual precipitation is about 20 inches (51 cm).

Phillipsburg is a small, rural town, and the economy is largely based on agriculture. The main crops grown in the area are wheat, corn, and sorghum. The town also has a few small businesses, including a grocery store, a hardware store, and a few restaurants.
