Overbrook Summary

Overbrook, Kansas is a small town located in Osage County, Kansas. It is situated on the banks of the Marais des Cygnes River, approximately 20 miles south of Topeka. The town was founded in 1867 and was named after the nearby Overbrook Creek. As of the 2010 census, the population of Overbrook was 545.

History

The area that is now Overbrook was originally inhabited by the Osage Indians. The first white settlers arrived in the area in the late 1840s. The town was founded in 1867 by a group of settlers from Ohio. The town was named after the nearby Overbrook Creek.
In 1871, the first post office was established in Overbrook. The town was incorporated in 1873. The first school was built in 1875 and the first church was built in 1876.
In the late 19th century, Overbrook was a thriving agricultural community. The town was home to several businesses, including a general store, a blacksmith shop, a hotel, and a livery stable.

Geography

Overbrook is located at 38°37'25" North, 95°45'45" West (38.623, -95.7625). The town is situated on the banks of the Marais des Cygnes River, approximately 20 miles south of Topeka.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.6 square miles (1.6 km2), all of it land.
