Olsburg Summary

Olsburg is a small town located in Pottawatomie County, Kansas, United States. The population was estimated to be around 200 people in 2020. The town was founded in 1887 and is named after its first postmaster, John Olsberg.

Geography

Olsburg is located at 39°25'45" North, 96°17'45" West (39.429167, -96.295833). It is situated in the Flint Hills region of Kansas, about 10 miles south of Manhattan and about 20 miles north of Topeka. The town is located on the banks of the Kansas River, which flows through the area.
The total area of Olsburg is 0.6 square miles, all of which is land. The town is located in a rural area, with the nearest major city being Topeka, which is about 20 miles away.

Demographics

As of the 2010 census, there were 200 people, 79 households, and 54 families residing in the town. The population density was 333.3 people per square mile (128.7/km2). There were 86 housing units at an average density of 143.3 per square mile (55.3/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 97.5% White, 0.5% African American, 0.5% Native American, 0.5% Asian, and 1.0% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.5% of the population.
There were 79 households, out of which 28.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.4% were married couples living together, 8.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.3% were non-families. 28.4% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
