McFarland Summary

McFarland, Kansas is a small town located in the north-central part of the state, in the county of Geary. It is situated on the banks of the Smoky Hill River, and is surrounded by rolling hills and prairies. The town was founded in 1887, and has a population of just over 1,000 people.

History

McFarland was founded in 1887 by a group of settlers from the nearby town of Junction City. The settlers were looking for a place to settle and start a new life, and they chose the area around the Smoky Hill River. The town was named after a local rancher, William McFarland, who had a large ranch in the area.
The town grew quickly, and soon had a post office, a school, a church, and a general store. The town was also home to a number of businesses, including a blacksmith, a livery stable, and a hotel.
In the early 1900s, the town was a popular stop for travelers on the Santa Fe Trail. The town was also home to a number of saloons, which were popular with the cowboys who were passing through.
