Mankato, Kansas is a small town located in Jewell County in the north-central part of the state. It is situated on the banks of the Republican River, and is the county seat of Jewell County. The population of Mankato was 1,093 at the 2010 census.

History

Mankato was founded in 1871 by a group of settlers from Ohio. The town was named after Mankato, Minnesota, which was the hometown of one of the settlers. The town was incorporated in 1873.
