Lyndon Summary

Lyndon, Kansas is a small city located in Osage County, Kansas. It is situated on the banks of the Marais des Cygnes River, approximately 25 miles south of Topeka. The city was founded in 1869 and has a population of 1,845 as of the 2010 census.

History

The area that is now Lyndon was first settled in 1854 by a group of settlers from Ohio. The town was originally called “Mud Creek”, but was later renamed Lyndon in honor of the first postmaster, John Lyndon. The town was officially incorporated in 1869.
In the late 19th century, Lyndon was a thriving agricultural community. The town was home to several grain elevators, a flour mill, a creamery, and a lumber yard. The town also had a hotel, a bank, and several stores.
In the early 20th century, Lyndon experienced a period of growth and prosperity. The town was home to several businesses, including a furniture store, a hardware store, a drug store, and a movie theater. The town also had a public library, a hospital, and a high school.

Geography

Lyndon is located in Osage County, Kansas. It is situated on the banks of the Marais des Cygnes River, approximately 25 miles south of Topeka. The city has a total area of 1.2 square miles, all of which is land.
